While Saya and Anisa watch and review the second season of FOREST OF SECRETS (STRANGER), I wander lazily through a few quietly excellent dramas released in the last month.
The Good Detective & The Flower of Evil have both caught me in their snare, but for very different reasons.

I think Lee Jun-ki is magic. And a Lee Jun-ki playing a loving husband, who has to act every moment of the day to convince his detective wife that he loves her is one I need no convincing to watch. But of course, I don’t really think our heart throb is a psychopath. Already, his ruthlessness is severely under question. But I do want to see how the cat and mouse game between husband and wife plays out and if a reasonably happy ending is even possible.
And then there is the unexpectedly gripping The Good Detective. Saya told me to watch this one, and since she’s the boss of all things thrilling, I tried the first episode. There is very little explanation before we jump into the deep end of a conviction gone wrong. A detective who’s up for promotion suddenly has to dig into his own old case to solve a recent murder. But the best part is that the murderer isn’t trying to escape. He’s challenging our heroes to figure out why he committed the crime and has punishments of his own to hand out.

It’s one of those dramas that you have to watch closely. There are clues right in front of you.
Anyway, so for this WDR, I thought I would do something different (since I’m the only one playing). I sat my cousin down and asked her if she’d be willing to forsake romantic fantasy and watch a K-drama thriller with me. She said – maybe. So, we recorded my attempt at convincing her.
This is pretty much how a majority of my attempts at getting her to watch things go:
PAROMA YOU ARE DOING THIS ALL WRONG
*one minute into the video*
So look, you have to first get your cousin to watch Arang and the Magistrate – fantasy. romance.
then she will watch anything with Lee Jun-ki

I am now 2.45 in
this is so great
I love Romona’s deadpan trope IDing
and your smug face is only outshone by your exasperated-patience face hahaha

6.17: If it helps Romona – there’s a pretty interesting tension between Jang Seung-jo’s and Lee Elijah’s characters. It’s not romance per se…but it’s also totally better than romance!
Also that (non-gay) bromance with JSJ and Sohn Hyun-joo is GREAT, maybe my favourite part out of this drama full of favourite things. It really keeps getting better by the episode *pounds keyboard*

Well that was most excellent, thank you to you both! I was laughing all the way through. More Romona guest-spots please! She’s like the Zaynab to your Anisa, P, hahahaha!

Muahaha. I was wondering how 4 new comments all appeared within the same hour. XD I told her about Arang during the recording, but then we digressed into Arang’s plot, so that had to be cut out. She’s promised to try it out with me!

I am definitely enjoying Flower of Evil. It’s one of the best Korean dramas I have seen all year so far. Can’t wait to see how this story is going to unfold. I haven’t watched Good Detective yet, but that one sounds very good too.
Don’t know if you have watched Train yet, but that’s another show that I’m highly enjoying right now. So many series…so little time😊

FoE is all kinds of delicious. But yes, Train! I have that on my list! I’ve been hearing such good things about that one. But I need to finish at least one of these before moving to it. (Also trying to finish Stranger, so I can watch season 2!!)

I have watched both the shows and FOE was the first ever Korean drama that I watched. I loved that one! It had the blend of everything: great acting, amazing plot, extremely thrilling and had a great touch of romance as well. The second show I watched was “The good detective” and it was awesome.. probably both the shows I think are the best shows I have seen till date. The good detective has Jang Seoug Jo (oh ji heuk) and I actually watched it second time just to watch this unbelievably handsome actor!
I don’t know of you have watched “Chocolate” but if you haven’t it’s definitely recommended. I watched that for Jang Seoug Jo who plays the second lead and when I watched that I realised that he is such a talented actor. His two series has totally different roles and he carries it off effortlessly!

Hey Bhairavi! I did watch Chocolate about halfway through, and you’re absolutely right that JSJ is an extremely versatile (and extremely good looking) actor. XD Did you know that The Good Detective just got slotted for a second season? They’ll be filming in fall, so it should be out by the end of the year!
